Following the inauguration of President Trump, Elon Musk was appointed to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a task force aimed at streamlining federal operations. However, watchdog agencies have raised concerns about the legality of DOGE and what kind of transparency requirements need to be imposed on a department with such a wide latitude in interfering with the federal government. These advocacy groups have pointed out that DOGE, whose team members have not been vetted for security, have access to sensitive government data, including personal information such as Social Security numbers and bank account details. In response to these concerns, a federal judge has temporarily restricted DOGE’s access to the U.S. Treasury’s payment systems. However, DOGE’s access and reach into other sensitive data like Social Security and Medical information is unknown at the moment.

Given these developments, it is more important than ever for us to take proactive steps to safeguard our personal data from unauthorized access and potential misuse. Below are several measures you can implement to protect your privacy.

• Add an Extra Layer of Security: MFA requires additional verification steps beyond just a password, making it more difficult for unauthorized individuals to access your accounts.
   

3. Keep Software and Devices Updated

• Regular Updates: Ensure that your operating systems, applications, and security software are up to date to protect against known vulnerabilities.

• Regular Reviews: Frequently check your bank and credit card statements for any unauthorized transactions.
