Over the last several weeks, COVID-19 cases in several South Asian countries have spiked alarmingly. Most notably, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka have all seen massive increases in cases, with commensurate severe illness, hospitalization, and death. The problem is compounded by acute shortages of vaccines, oxygen, oxygen concentrators, ICU beds, and other medical resources. Hospitals have turned away serious cases due to lack of capacity. Doctors and nursing staff are overwhelmed and exhausted. Lines at crematoriums and cemeteries stretch longer and longer. Virtually every family has suffered the loss of a family member, loved one, or close friend.

Almost two weeks ago, the United States as a whole and Sikh communities globally mourned the loss of eight precious lives at the hands of senseless gun violence that disproportionately targeted and impacted the Sikh community in Indianapolis, Indiana. We remember the victims here and extend our thoughts and prayers to their families, friends, colleagues, and communities.

On January 20, 2021, Joseph Biden Jr. will be officially inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States. We congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who garnered a decisive and historic victory over Donald Trump in November 2020. Kamala Devi Harris will become the first South Asian to serve in the role of Vice President, along with being the first Black and first female Vice President. In addition to mobilizing South Asian voters for the White House, Senate and House races, TSB made phenomenal efforts in Georgia for the Senate run-offs resulting in clear victories for Jon Ossoff and Rafael Warnock, the latter being the first Black US Senator from GA. We congratulate all Georgians, along with Senators Ossoff and Warnock for this historic moment for the Peach State!
